Katie Swan is an artist and educator who completed her MFA program at Mills College in Oakland CA. She has a disciplined history in athletics including throwing discus at UCLA. She traveled to Denmark to work as an artist assistant and later relocated to Bay Area to study under Nancy Selvin and other influential Bay Area ceramic artist. Each time she works with an artist she makes work alongside them, or collaborated with them, as if having a many condensed residencies. She recently moved to Kansas City after teaching at an adjunct ceramics and 3D professor in North Carolina for Montgomery Community College and Sandhills Community College. Her life passions of healing, somatic movement, and ritual are woven into her art practice which come through as a meditative process in clay and performance media.
